Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Altesino delivers a unique Brunello with distinctive notes of mature berry, candied fruit, raisins and prunes. You can feel the heat of the hot vintage thanks to the wine’s chewy tannins and bursting cherry flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
We preferred Altesino’s base Brunello to its cru selection from the estate’s special 10-acre vineyard—but only by the smallest of margins. Montosoli is a tremendous wine with impressive intensity and staying power that takes shape as cherry, tobacco, spice and bursting blueberry. Drink from 2010 through 2020.

Splendid from the gun, and classy. Early aromas of hard spices, mineral and matchstick announce some young oak, but that shortly dissipates, revealing a tight cherry and dark-chocolate bouquet. This model Brunello is impeccably balanced through the palate and onto the finish, which features a huge mix of pepper, licorice, baked fruit and vanilla. Hold at least until 2006.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This gorgeous wine opens with a big, bold aromatic bang, enormous depth, intensity and concentration. This is a massive Brunello on every front including aromatics. The tones of cherry, leather, tobacco, sweet spice and toasted nut are perfectly focused and bright.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a wine that never won consensus despite multiple tastings. One panelist noted a strong dislike for a garlicky, skunky aroma that the others did not pick up. They lauded its herbal, wet clay, blueberry, cherry and violet tones. Imported by Winebow.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Brownish in color and very ripe on the nose with aromas of sweet oak, vanilla extract, coffee and fruit marmalade, this richly concentrated Brunello resonates with the warmth of the 2003 vintage. It has firm, gritty tannins and would pair well with game meats.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Altesino’s base Brunello presents a tonic, ruby color with pristine aromas of wild berry, blue flower, earth and ground clove. You’ll like the brightness and determination the wine shows in the mouth as it spreads clean over your palate.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Altesino produces some of our favorite Brunello and although this vintage of Montosoli is less overt than others, the winemakers have worked hard to craft a top shelf expression from this sun-kissed territory. There’s enormous depth and persistency here with aromas of black fruit, spice and cherry cola. It’s smooth, rich and long lasting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This stunning wine boasts loads of character that peels off as aromatic layers of cherry, cassis, soapy wild flowers, violets, earth, cola and church incense. There’s a sweet spice element of cinnamon and nutmeg and all the flavors last long on the finish. It’s tempered, elegant and smooth overall.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Strangely this one has a nose of Italian bitters, anise and pine. It’s not a warm, ripe wine. What it does give is tight, dry cherry and berry flavors with layers of complexity and intrigue. Not very woody or chewy. More old school and an enigma among so many forward, fruity compatriots. Imported by Winebow.
