Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From older Champoux Vineyard vines, Andrew Will’s Tête de Cuvée is half Cabernet Sauvignon, one quarter Merlot and the rest Franc and Petit Verdot. Tasted shortly before its official release, it was fairly reductive, extremely tight, and difficult to penetrate. Certainly a substantial and worthy Sorella, the score could go higher as it evolves.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A powerful, dense, blue-purple Klipsun vineyard release tops the incredible lineup from Andrew Will in the 2000 vintage. This wine features pungent black cherry and blackberry fruit, streaked with the vineyard’s defining terroir flavor of iron ore. All the Andrew Will Merlots are released quite young, but are undeniably delicious, balanced and hard to resist.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This vineyard, virtually adjacent to Klipsun, delivers equally good fruit but with a more restrained, feminine profile. Mineral, cassis and cherry flavors are structured on an elegant, firmly sculpted framework of acid and restrained tannins. The oak treatment is just right, and lets the fruit take center stage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Much improved over the previous vintage, this is a fragrant wine perfumed with cherry/berry scents and light spice. The core of sweet cherry fruit is more open and generous, more approachable than the Red Mountain vineyard wines, which are more cellarworthy.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An intense blue-purple wine, young, grapey and striking. The classic Klipsun core of iron/mineral is there, along with tight, spicy fruit, and plenty of acid for long-term aging. The complex layers of flavor are a good way from being fully integrated, but the track record of the winery and the vineyard suggest that they will come together beautifully over time.

Aromatic, chocolaty and deliciously smooth, the Sheridan vineyard bottling sends up sweet scents of ground coffee and chocolate. Compact fruit flavors of fig and black cherry run right into a bourbon barrel finish, with granular tannins that add welcome texture and a streak of graphite.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fairly light, with cranberry/pomegranate flavors and hints of stem and earth. Plenty of acid keeps it firmed up, and there is a modest hint of milk chocolate in the broad finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is flat-out classy, polished and elegant Merlot, made with fruit from a premier vineyard on Red Mountain. There’s a lush mix of cherries, plums and berries to start, a nice toasty, cocoa frame, fine balance and a firm, confident finish. Despite its youth it’s focused and appealing, but a little time will really open it up. Cellar Selection.

This is good juice, sappy and clean, with flavors of crisp red apple leading into light tropical fruit – citrus and pineapple. It’s lush and acid-driven, with an underpinning of mineral and stone.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Technically a second label, but flavorwise it’s top shelf. A lovely effort from a top vineyard; this elegant, ripe and textured wine offers true varietal flavors. Tart plum, berry and cherry are wrapped into a tannic young wine with room to develop. A pleasing minerality underlies the fruit.
