Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Medium-bodied, with what appears to be a touch of residual sugar to help round it out, this fresh, apple-y Riesling also features hints of orange blossom and florists’ greens.

A lighter-style Shiraz from Clare. Nose offers fruitcake, bready aromas with candied fruit. The palate is a fruit bonanza—think red plum, black plum and raspberry. A fleeting herbal, or metallic, edge at the back of the palate, and a finish that fades a little too fast are my only quibbles.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Though the plum fruit on the nose smells fresh and red, with a nice dusty overlay, the fruit turns a little sour on the palate—like plums mixed in with a few cranberries. Finishes with herb and oak; this is a wine would benefit from being served with Xfood to show its best.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little alcoholic on the nose, but there’s bright tropical fruit and stone fruit flavors on the palate. Good, textbook Chard that finishes with decent length.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Medium- to full-bodied, this richly earthy Shiraz also brings along plenty of complexity in its aromas and flavors of smoke, tobacco, cola and blackberry. There’s some oak, but this bargain-priced beauty is more about displaying the Clare Valley terroir than simple fruit or oak, unusual in this price range. Drink now–2012.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Semillon has perky yellow fruit and a viscous mouthfeel; has some weight and fullness, particularly considering the variety, and the fact that it’s unoaked. Hay, honey, flowers and fresh-mown grass on the nose is the best part.

Some Rieslings bowl you over with flavor and acid, but this isn’t one of them. You know all that talk you hear about the grape’s versatility with food? They could have been talking about this wine, and its wet-stone texture, and lemon and pear flavors. Imported by Foster’s Wine Estates Americas.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows sweet vanilla and candied nut on the nose, followed by cool, black-cherry notes in the mouth. It’s a focused wine, not a mouthfilling one, with a lovely soil-mineral texture. Very good; 750 cases produced. Imported by Foster’s Wine Estates Americas.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Nose is a nice mix of lime, gooseberry and jasmine, and the mouthfeel is a mix of chalky smoothness and a dash of viscosity. Peach, pear and lime peel flavors fade into a medium-length finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Has light, pleasant vanilla, paraffin and white peach aromas. It’s plump in the mouth, with lots of wood and spice, and a side order of stone fruit. Finishes a little thin. A nice wine; it’s hard to come by a Clare appellation bottle at this price.
