Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The rigorously en famille Anselma estate offers a bold and innovative interpretation of Barolo with loads of red fruit, cola and exotic spice. Despite its big aromatic personality, the wine is subdued and elegant in the mouth with silky smoothness and a long, mineral-driven finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s an earthy, meaty Barolo with characteristic aromas of smoked honey ham, bresaola, root beer and exotic spice. The fruit element comes forward as blackberry and cassis. The wine is slightly bitter and astringent. Drink it well after 2015 to let those tannins soften.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This traditional-style Barolo spends three years in Slavonian oak. This brings aromas of cured meats and ocean breeze. There are flavors of field greens and charred oak, with a rich, ample mouthfeel. Drink 2005–2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With fruit sourced at the heart of the Barolo winemaking region, this pretty expression of Nebbiolo offers a thin, compact and austere style with aromas of prune and plum backed by smoked ham and white mushroom. The gripping tannins are tight and still very young.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet spice, bright cherries, creamy vanilla, leather and cinnamon stick set the tone for what ultimately proves to be a traditional Barolo. It doesn’t have the overt intensity of other wines from this vintage but it does offer elegant aromas and a drying aftertaste. The tannins are still on the astringent side: drink in five more years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Best in the nose, where lush berries and cream offer a lot, but the palate doesn’t really hold on. It’s a bit sour and acidic, but as a whole, it’s a good wine. Drink it for the crisp fruit and reasonably good balance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Barolo Famiglia Anselma opens with luscious, dark concentration and spicy tones of clove, pepper and honey-roasted almond. Delicate aromas of cassis, cola and licorice fill in the back and help build endurance and persistency for what is a long, pleasurable mouthfeel.

The Anselma family is committed to producing only great Barolo and nothing else. This vintage of its prized product offers beautiful hints of blue flowers and wild berries followed by herbal overtones. In the mouth, it tastes rich and fresh, silky and smooth.
