Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Having very much liked previous vintages of this Carmenère-Cabernet-Syrah blend, the 2003, while perfectly good, seems a bit short on substance. The nose has a bit more beet and red plum than desirable, and the palate just doesn’t have that much style or flair. Registers a bit hot and grabby on the finish. Imported by Global Vineyard Importers.

Every year this wine impresses and scores the same, so give credit to Antiyal for consistent high quality. This vintage shows milk chocolate, leather and char on the nose along with deep berry aromas. The palate is full and lush, with cassis, cherry, berry and a light leafiness. Mildly herbal but that’s pure Maipo Valley for you; Carmenère, Cabernet and Syrah is the blend. Drink now–2013.

This small-production luxury red blends Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and the end result is excellent. Licorice and black fruit carry the masculine bouquet, and next up is a palate of ripe berries that explode in a fireball of flavor. Not oaky, but well oaked; shows the essence of Maipo fruit.

Intense and dark, with an oily nose of mineral, leather and mocha along with ripe berry fruit notes. The blend (50% Carmenère, 40% Cab Sauvignon, 10% Syrah), works like a charm. The flavors settle on lightly herb-infused berry flavors and chocolate, while the finish is on the spot. Rich, ripe and with modest tannins; drink now–2009.

A terrific wine, boasting exquisite class, texture and suppleness. It’s very fruity, opening with a burst of berries and stone fruits that have an herbal edge but maintain their sweetness through the long finish. Yet it’s dry, with smooth tannins. A blend of Carmènere, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells a little jumbled out of the chute, but in no time it rounds into form. The nose turns out to be rich, jammy and convincing, while the palate is robust and features ripe plum and berry flavors. For bold fruit, vigor and drive, this answers the call. It could probably stand to be more elegant and nuanced, but as is it’s a fine mix of Carmenère, Cabernet and Syrah.

The nose delivers a mix of herbal berry, cola and earth, while the palate is fresh and deep, with lightly medicinal cherry, cola, blackberry tobacco, mocha and more. Finishes rich and chocolaty, with a rush of textbook Chilean flavors including tobacco, herbs, olive and black fruits.
