Stunning. Explodes with the most intricately detailed aromas: a perfume of fine smoky oak and ripe black currants. Exudes sheer power, with great weight yet no heaviness. Lush and delicious, but just tannic enough. If you can wait, cellar until 2008, it should hold and improve for many years.

Profoundly beautiful aroma on this Cab, a perfect union of oaky char and vanilla with ripe blackberries and cassis. Hard to exaggerate the beauty. Powerful, yet never pushy, with classic Napa balance. Rich, sweet, almost meaty, with massive tannins that are refined and smooth. Very great density and weight. Really defines the vineyard, and should age effortlessly for 20 years

Classic nose of Meyer lemon, canteloupe, and a sweet, rich undertone; slightly sweet finish. Perfect afternoon sipping wine.

The wine had a very different nose at the outset with much more subtlety and nuance, pleasant and seductive with sweet aromas of chocolate and caramel, some green herbs, soft ripe fruit; some real syrah character in this wine with earthen and pepper flavors; soft and round, silky textures and rich flavors; powerful core structure that is still dominated by green tannins; but there is complexity and balance in this wine, and after a few years in the bottle, this will be stunning. Classic nose of cat’s piss, lemon peel, minerals, mixed with ripe fruit and a sweet, rich undertone; rich and sweet in the mouth, smooth and polished; candied lemon peel; fresh acidity that adds a nice crispness to the wine; a solid wine with more substance and balance than most of these wines that are made in California. Not as profound or powerful on the nose, but still an intense and impressive opening salvo of ripe black fruits, leather, earth, and green spices; sweet and ripe in the mouth, and very similar to the ’96 but with a bit less power but more integration of the tannins; oriental spice box flavors mix with tar and sweet black fruits; a very good wine and a close runner-up to the ’96 which I felt had better depth and more powerful fruit. This wine opens with a more intense nose, showing lots of black fruits, dense aromas laced with tar and green herbs, and at the same time very sweet and sugary; more traditional in the mouth with flavors of tar, cassis, and earth with a nice touch of truffles and oriental spices; rich in the mouth and well focused; a much better wine than the 2000. Surprisingly sweet and soft nose, very rich and ripe with wafting aromas of cinnamon and caramel, interspersed with green herbs and a touch of smoke and tar; sweet and very ripe tasting with black and red fruits exposed in layers; not surprisingly there are huge chewy tannins in this wine at this age; a good wine but it has a strange overripe character that leaves it tasting a bit phlegmatic and I wonder how well this will age since it seems to be lacking much acidity. Sweet and dense aromas, powerful nose, as with many of these wines, loaded with black fruits, peppery and perfumed; smooth and silky in the front of the mouth, this wine shows lots of elegance; lots of black cherry and black currant flavors; very intense and focused, but also with a lot of acidity emerging in the mouth as it passes through the palate, giving the wine a hard-shelled finish with a dry texture.
