Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and charred, with black cherry, black licorice and a burnt-oak element on the nose. The palate is thick and firm, with dark berry, herbal notes and some additional burnt char. Finishes with herbal flavors, olive notes and carob. An obvious Chilean Merlot; comes straight from central casting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and charred, with aromas of shoe polish, asphalt, coconut and blackberry. It’s masculine in style, with firm tannins that bite down in support of concentrated black fruit, chocolate and spice flavors. Coffee, bitterness and heat work the finish on this tannic, full-bodied Cabernet.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little soapy on the nose, with air freshener, cherry candy and soft berry aromas. The palate follows what the nose offers with richness and soft tannins along with blackberry and blueberry flavors. Not very spicy for a Syrah; it’s more of a baked, toasty, generic red wine that tastes good but isn’t complex or varietal in nature.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit heavy and oily on the nose, with chunky passion fruit and pink grapefruit aromas. The palate is weighty and the flavors run toward tropical fruit before pithy, almost bitter passion fruit takes over. A bulky, semigreen wine with tropical shadings.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet, jammy and friendly on the nose, with a bit of herbs, olive and leather. The palate is firm and healthy, with some oaky residue along with jammy, grainy blackberry, baked plum and bitter chocolate flavors. Sweet and chewy in terms of feel, with a nicely baked overall character.

Toasty and heavy on the nose, with popcorn and baked fruit aromas leading the charge. The palate has moderate richness and lots of oak, with resiny white fruit flavors of baked apple and peach. Vanilla and spice work the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big-time effort for Arboleda. The wine hits with copious but balanced wood, which creates a strong blast of popcorn on the nose. The mouthfeel is sturdy and intense, with nectarine, honey and toast flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Light tropical aromas are inviting as they offer a bit of green pepper and herbs. Nice in the mouth, with distinct grapefruit, apple and lime notes. Flush and bright; it’s straight-ahead wine with positives. Imported by Frederick Wildman & Sons, Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The wine is big at 14.5%, with aromas of spiced gumdrops, cured meat and dark fruit. It’s full on the palate, teetering on raisiny, with brazen black plum, boysenberry and burnt toast flavors. Very ripe, succulent and forward, yet not overly elegant.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An oily and thick style of SB. It captures Leyda’s coastal climate almost too much, resulting in green, lightly vegetal aromas and flavors. There’s some pickle and bell pepper, and it seems underdeveloped throughout.
