Seems a bit tired, with the fruit flavors turning to herbs, dried leaves and mushroom. Finishes dry and clean, with some green-apple notes.

I didn’t care much for Arcadian’s ’01 Fiddlestix, but with the ’02, they’ve hit the mark, producing a Pinot that appeals for its broad, pretty fruit and supple tannins. It’s enjoyable now for the ripe cherries, raspberries, tangerines and vanilla cream flavors, but the acids and tannins are such that, even though it’s more than four years old, it still has another six to eight years ahead.

There’s a rich, earthy grounding to the intensely ripe cherry, cola, vanilla, cinnamon, clove and brine flavors that makes this savory wine balanced and interesting. At nearly four years of age, it tastes fresh and young, and has a good eight years ahead of complexity.

A full and creamy bouquet announces a palate laden with ripe golden delicious apple, vanilla, and melon flavors, with chalk, mineral and earth elements. The dry finish carries some length and builds in intensity. A straightforward wine that’s ready to drink right now.

Shows an herbal, tobacco and mushroom edge to the sour red cherry and pomegranate fruit, in a lightly delicate, dry mouthfeel. With its coat of furry, peppery tannins, this young Pinot needs time. It’s a good example of a less-ripe, but very elegant, style. Best after 2011.

Lower in alcohol and more elegant than most Santa Rita Pinot Noirs, this beauty has succulent cherry fruit flavors grounded in earthier notes of tobacco, dried herbs and black pepper. Good now, but should improve after 2011.

Here’s a Pinot that’s pretty big-boned but manages to hold on to elegance. It’s a balancing act, but the full body is lightened by silky tannins and crisp blackberry flavors. Still, it’s heavy.

Well-oaked, this wine stars char, vanilla and woody flavors framing underlying cola and cherry flavors that, while dry, are rich enough to feel sweet on the palate. There’s good acidity, and the texture is silky and smooth. Nice for immediate drinking.
