Here’s a big, bold, ripe and high alcohol Zinfandel. It explodes in blackberries, chocolate, licorice and pepper. Not for the faint-hearted.

Sweet and raisiny, a Zin that simply got too ripe. Shows some bitter raisin skin tannins, too.

Light cherry and mint play leading roles. A pleasant fruity quaff with herbal shadings. It’s a lightweight, but not an unpleasant one.

Simple and sweet, this Chard charms with pineapple, tangerine, Meyer lemon, buttered toast and cinnamon spice flavors. It’s not especially complex, but will dazzle Chardophiles who want richness and oak.

Jammy and grapey, there’s enough friendly fruit to fill your mouth and draw a smile. Mild oak spice and a Zin-typical brambly quality. Not a thriller, but steady and sturdy. A good Zinfandel for neophytes—after a couple of sips they’ll know what Zin is about.

Tea and herb qualities mark this wine, which also features blackberry and cassis notes that are couched in moderate tannins. Fairly smooth yet bright.

Pale gold color. The nose shows a lot of pear and pineapple fruit and some creamy vanilla notes from barrel fermentation. Medium-bodied, it finishes with some spicy oak notes. Attractive wine, drink now.

Herbal and bulky, with sweet apple, pear and pineapple flavors. Quite heavy on the tongue, with soft acids. Seems a bit gummy and candied, and just not that precise, despite delivering some rich flavors.

Nice and ripe in black cherry pie filling, black raspberry, cola, root beer and smoky oak flavors, this Pinot has some firm tannins that will stand up to a rich steak. It should hold through 2010.
