Nice drinking here, with modulated berry fruit and sizable tannins, which you don’t see that much anymore. Dick Arrowood produced a complex, dry beverage that will complement a wide variety of foods. —S.H.

Nice and easy-drinking, with peach and apple flavors spiced up with the sweet vanillins and smoke of oak. Drinks a bit soft and slightly sweet, with rich extract that lasts through the finish. —S.H.

From master winemaker Dick Arrowood, and pretty good for a regional-based wine. A politically correct Cabernet with cassis flavors, good oak, very dry, stylish tannins and low acidity. There’s not a lot going on below the surface but it gets the job done.

Made from Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache, this is a fairly ordinary red wine, with cherry, currant, smoke, spice and herb flavors. Drink now.

Starts with scents of jammy blackberries and peppery spice, then adds shadings of vanilla and plum on the lush, creamy-textured palate. Finishes long, with echoes of black pepper that gracefully linger, mingling with fruity notes.

Put together from every corner of the county, this is a very good wine. It just shows that tasteful blending can be a good thing. Strikes a fine balance between the dried herb and green olive flavors and plusher ones of cherries. There is a hollow spot in the middle that is due to the vintage, but the overall impression is upscale.

A soft, gentle wine, flavored with red cherry, kirsch, pomegranate and raspberry, folded into easy tannins. Turns a bit hollow in the finish.

A bit rustic and rowdy, in the way of Malbec, with big, edgy tannins and a scour of acidity. Whatever elegance it lacks, it makes up for in the sheer power of its blackberry and coffee fruit flavors. Will probably age forever, gradually mellowing and sweetening, without ever showing much complexity.

. Here’s a rich, flamboyant Syrah oozing with cherry liqueur and spicy flavors, with tannins as soft and melted as warm butter. It is very tasty, but a bit lacking in structure.

It’s said that Dick Arrowood personally checks every bottle that goes out—his attention to detail shows here. A complex and refined bouquet of toasted oat, coconut, orange and peach opens to a full palate of apple, yellow plum and caramel flavors. Rich and creamily textured, it is also high on spice and smoky oak. The complex finish is very long, leesy and elegantly nuanced.
