Avinyo does not make cookie-cutter cavas, and thus this wine is out of the ordinary and not always the better for it. The nose is lean and spritzy, with aromas equal to lemon-lime. The palate is drawn in for a brut, with tart flavors. Slim in profile, but not a bad or indifferent wine.

This Cava boasts a nose full of apple, buttercream, wispy toast and lemon squares. Caramel and sweet herbs chime in on the palate. Finishes cleanly with lingering toast and hay flavors. Very fresh. Best Buy. —K.F.

Different from the crowd. The nose concedes light raspberry and cranberry aromas, while the palate is a pink passion play that’s not that easy to figure out. It’s tangy, with citrus and berry mixing in an unconventional manner. Interesting in the mouth; a quality wine. Not run of the mill. Imported by De Maison Selections, Inc.

This Cava starts off with intense white gumdrop scents, backed by peaches and apricots, then opens up to display nearly overwhelming floral notes. It’s effusively perfumed and light in body, crisp and clean on the finish.

Nearly black in color, with a nose that pulses forth with tire rubber and later some lighter, more distant aromas of green vegetables. While there is a chocolaty sweetness to the cherry and cassis fruit, that same fruit has an alter ego, which is bell pepper. You taste the green mostly at the front of the palate and very late. In between is some richness and lots of extract.
