Clean, polished and fresh, this bright Nero d’Avola offers very nice balance between its fruity elements and drying mineral tones. There’s a touch of chewy sweetness on the wine’s easygoing finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This luminous blend of Insolia and Viognier offers a very pretty and feminine juxtaposition of fragrant floral aromas (from the Viognier) against tones of citrus, peach and kiwi from the Insolia. There’s a touch of sweetness on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Baglio di Pianetto, with its beautiful dairy farms and vineyards in central Sicily, offers one of Italy’s best wood-aged expressions of Viognier. The wine boasts sophistication and intensity with well-focused aromas of pineapple, Golden Delicious apple, pear and apricot with vanilla and butter spread within the folds. Drink it with lobster or stuffed crab.

Cembali is a fruity and powerful oak-aged Nero d’Avola with characteristic notes of marzipan, pistachio paste, cherry liqueur and a touch of spicy rum cake. The wine’s fruity highlights should integrate with the natural spice with one or two more years of cellar aging.

Carduni is an excellent, all-Sicilian Petit Verdot with dense fruit flavors and deep, concentrated color and texture. This is a bruiser of a wine that ushers forth generous aromas of blackberry, ripe cherry, spice and cola. It has gritty tannins and admirable staying power: Pair it with succulent cuts of red beef.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ra’is is an attractive and luminous sweet wine but its aromas are slightly muddled by pungent tones, reminiscent of pinesap or eucalyptus, that distract from the natural quality of the fruit. It has a tonic, spicy mouthfeel with dense, chewy sweetness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet Christmas spice and cinnamon appear on the nose of this succulent Merlot, which is aged in barrique for 16 months. The wine offers thick, juicy tannins that give structure and support to the generous intensity of fresh fruit you will encounter here.

A warm climate Viognier that shows fragrant aromas of wild flowers, honeysuckle, white violets and stone fruit. It shows a thick, fat feel in the mouth with loads of yellow fruit flavors on the close.

This delicious Merlot exhibits fine and elegant aromas of blackberry, cherry, graphite and lingering tones of smoke and spice. The mouthfeel is enormously generous and intense and wine does a great job of keeping your interest, sip after sip.

Cembali is usually a spot on expression of Nero d’Avola, one of Sicily’s best and most elaborate, but the 2005 vintage definitely seems on the overripe, alcoholic and jammy side. Ripe fruit aromas, toasted oak and smoked beef jerky push forth from the nose.
