Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Encouraging aromas of bread dough and baked apple give way to a rubber note. Moderately flavorful in the mouth but somewhat mono-dimensional with a foamy mousse. Medium finish. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Polished stone, mineral and milky blueberry tones make up the dense fabric of this well-concentrated blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Banfi’s Centine is inky and dark in appearance and offers aromas of raw fruit and Indian spice. The mouthfeel is chewy and soft.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Banfi presents an easy, no-fuss Chianti Classico that showcases Sangiovese typicity and personality. This is a profoundly food-friendly wine with built-in natural acidity that pairs it with butter or cream-based pasta dishes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Toasted wheat bread, bacon and clove add interest to the nose, which is robust and loaded with black fruit. The palate is complex enough to trigger some intrigue: Cinnamon, butter and licorice support the dark fruit nicely. The finish is smoothly textured, and there’s an airy quality to it. Quite meaty and solid, with a firm core. —M.S.

Banfi Sangiovese - 1998

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A succulent, chewy Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend with a pretty ruby color and intense aromas of coffee, tar, leather and toasted wood. The tannins are still a bit raw and beg for hearty meat. Tightly packed cherry and blackberry linger over a long finish. Castello Banfi performs the extraordinary vintage after vintage: It’s almost a one million case per year winery and it continues to offer excellent quality on its lowest priced products.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
You really can’t beat the brightness, overall freshness and low price of this very satisfying rosé. The wine is clear and luminous with well-defined aromas of berry fruit, cranberry and rose. It’s soft and creamy in the mouth and would pair well with quiche or puff pastry finger foods.

Displays a pleasing array of earth, spring flowers and red berries on the nose, but seems simple and sweet in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heavy on the rose petal and raspberry compote aromas, and also heavy on the palate. Yes, there’s definitely a touch of cherry cough syrup to this red sparkler. To enjoy this you have to like yours sweet; maybe best with a custard dessert or vanilla ice cream. It’s too sweet and candied for chocolate.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tobacco and herb accents play off cherry fruit on the slightly muted nose of this medium-weight wine. Plum, chocolate and wood flavors mark the slightly lean palate. Finishes dry, with cocoa and tea notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Banfi’s Chianti Superiore opens with easy but bright and cheerful aromas of cherry, raspberry and cassis. The mouthfeel is thin and compact but the wine has the natural acidity to pair with risotto or cheesy pasta.
