The Vintage Rosé is the alter ego of our Pinot Grigio in a gorgeous red wine which could come from nowhere else in the region. It is a true rosé of Nebbiolo, blended with components of Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Its abundant and complex array of red berry aromas and flavors is wonderfully paired with lightly caramelised grillings or roastings of lighter meats, sausages and poultry. Served chilled, it behaves with Pinot Grigio’s invigorating firmness and elegant suppleness, with grace notes of stone fruit, surprising body, and acidic brilliance lengthened by traces of natural sweetness, sustained by the tannins inherent in its origin. Talked into trying this on a guaranteed love it or send it back at Blackbird (Chicago). Really liked it quite a bit and pleased that a new state (Virginia) can produce some tasty wine. Not as complex or crisp as a top viognier but balanced and tart.
