Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Supple and easy to drink, this cherry-fruited wine easily carries its veneer of toasty, caramelly oak. This would be a great restaurant Pinot; versatile with food and in absolutely no need of cellaring.

This nice, fruity wine offers pleasure and complexity in a full-bodied red, with its plum, raspberry, blackberry and tobacco flavors. The youthful tannins are sweet and chewy. Best now through 2006.

Overwhelming flower-shop aromas and flavors with a decidedly lilac edge. Nice if you’re into flowers in a big way.

Okay for everyday purposes, a gentle wine with candied pineapple and apple flavors and oaky notes of vanilla and honey.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Well, it’s dry, bubbly and clean. This blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay is also inexpensive, but you’d never mistake it for Champagne.

Bizarre, with candied yam, pepper and citrus smells, and a dry, rough feeling that leaves the palate exhausted.

You won’t confuse this for Cote Rotie, but it’s a nice, honest country wine. It has rich flavors of blackberries, coffee and herbs, and is totally dry. A great value for an everyday red.

With 6.5% residual sugar, this is an overtly sweet white wine. It has pleasant flavors of peaches, flowers, vanilla and honey.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of blackberry and coffee fruit in this dry wine. It’s not terribly complex, and in fact is a little raw, but decanting will help, and the acids will balance well against the richness of steak.
