Starts with slate and lime aromas, adding in modest apple notes on the medium-weight palate. Clean and crisp, just lacks a bit of distinction. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The flight of Rheingau dessert wines this appeared in was almost universally disappointing. Like most of the others, this showed some excessively earthy aromas and flavors, although it did possess ample sweetness and attractive musk and spice notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This delicate wine is waif-like and virtually ephemeral on the nose, with subtle scents of mineral, fresh greens, citrus and apple. In the mouth, it shows similar finesse, striking a fine balance between sweetness and tart green-apple and lime flavors. Finishes long, accented by bright citrus notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A soft, fruity wine, Knyphausen’s entry-level Riesling has hints of flowers on the nose, then delivers weighty pear and melon flavors. Off-dry. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a decidedly nonfruity Riesling, marked instead by aromas of petrol and featuring flavors of crushed stone, canola oil and lime. It’s relatively light in body and close to dry, finishing long and citrusy. Try it with a seafood salad or smoked trout.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Almost tropically fruity, with hints of banana and pineapple adding nuance to the peach flavors. It’s slightly creamy in texture but not heavy, a pleasant sipper or companion to mildly spicy dishes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
In contrast to Knyphausen’s 2006 Riesling, the 2006 kabinett is restrained and minerally, offering crisp pineapple and green apple flavors underscored by mouthwatering acidity. It’s slightly lighter in body as well, with a raciness that would work well served alongside sautéed trout.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aside from vaguely mineral aromas, this wine is devoid of interest. Slightly pickle-y notes on the palate combine with subdued melon and apple flavors.
