Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A thick, chewy, fleshy and chocolaty wine, this is classic Washington Merlot. Nothing wimpy about it, the concentrated boysenberry, blueberry, cherry and chocolate flavors are enhanced with cedary aromas and some streaks of cinnamon. Way better than the ’02.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A new offering from Barrister, this Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon spent about 40 months in oak, and not too surprisingly, it’s oaky. With big, blocky tannins, and round, forward fruit, it retains enough of the herbaceous varietal character to mellow out some of that oak.

All Dwelley Vineyard Merlot, with 9% Cab Franc and 6% Cab Sauvignon. Lots of pretty barrel toast and dense purple and black fruits, mixed with spicy vanilla/clove. Tannins are silky smooth, supple and powerful, and the wine really kicks it!

Primarily ’08 Merlot, Syrah, and Cab Franc with some ’07 Cab Sauv also. Once again this wine rocks; it has fruit power, punch and presence. The flavors mingle seamlessly, young fruit with an attitude. Spicy, highlighted berry and plum flavors, with baking spice details, and some finishing heat.

Compelling aromas and flavors show a generous amount of toasty oak, dappled with the ground coffee highlights that you find in ripe Cab Franc. Lovely purple fruits, compelling, tight, tart flavors, racy and supple, with juicy fruit/berry flavors, fine tannins, and a smooth, supple, lengthy finish.

Barrister Cabernet Franc - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Syrah. Deeply fruity, dark and juicy, with huge berry flavors, but there is more to it—the flavors dig deeper, going into earth and spice and olive and toast. The fruit is the star here, and it’s amazingly young and still primary. Where will this go? It’ll be fun to find out.

Barrister Cabernet Sauvignon - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Barrister’s signature wine is once again right on target; smoky in the house style, fully ripe and not at all vegetal, with Cab Franc’s characteristic streak of pepper and coffee behind black cherry and cassis. The Cab Franc is blended with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine unfolds gracefully through a long and powerful finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Delicious as always, this blend brings a lot of pretty cherry and berry fruit. Big tannins and a rich mouthfeel make for a tasty, big-boned, chunky red blend, with plenty of cherry fruit flavor, and a chewy, drying finish that lingers as if demanding a grilled steak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This new producer grabbed a “Best Limited Production Wine” award at the La County Fair for this herbal and flavorful effort. Once you rip past the bell pepper scents and dig into the wine, it’s got dark cab franc fruit flavors, accented with ground coffee and plenty of smoky oak. The mid-palate is fleshy and concentrated, loaded with sweet fruit, while the finish lingers like smoke from a barbecue.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The winery’s first vineyard-designated Cab will be released officially in February 2006. Stylish, lighter and more elegant than the 2002 Cab, this weaves leaf and herbal accents throughout. 185 cases made.
