Drink this beauty now as it's ready! Won't disappoint. Visual: some heavy sediment (needs decanting); medium ruby colored core with pale ruby rim Nose: intensely perfumed and mature aromas of prune, raisin, black fig, blackberry, cassis, anise, saddle leather, pine needles, cola, beet, Red Vines, herbs, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, damp earth, pepper, clove; some meat and tar. Seriously! Palate: dry wth well integrated alcohol and tannin; fresh fruit flavors of strawberry, cherry, and pomegranate. Also baking spice and herbs, tobacco, fig and cola. Long-ish finish shows raisinated fruits like prunes reminiscent of vintage Port. Yum!

Old vine Zin takes a little while to open up- but once it did, it was lovely. Particularly enjoyed the wine with fried calamari and a hearty Tre Colore salad in the city.
