There’s a firm minerality and an acidic mouthfeel to this that suggests some cellaring. The oak dominates, all smoky vanillins and wood-sweet, but the underlying fruit is enormously ripe. Give it a year or so to knit together.

The product of a warm vintage in a cool-climate region, this is a very good Zin. It achieves interest and complexity. Structured like a good Cab Sauvignon, it has impressively deep blue and black wild berry and stone fruit, coffee, dried herb and spice flavors, wrapped into firm, dusty tannins.

Firmly tannic and very dry, this young Cab needs time or decanting to soften it. But it’s a fine wine, with a complex array of blackberry, sweet cured tobacco, tangerine and smoky oak flavors, and should develop well through the next six years.

Not a successful Pinot. It’s simply too ripe, with stewed cherry and raisin flavors. The silky texture, crisp acids and gentle tannins all are fine, but that overripeness lowers the quality.

This is a junior version of the winery’s Nelson Vineyard bottling, showing many of the same qualities, although it’s thinner. Dry and fairly tannic, the wine has blackberry, smoked meat, coffee and carob flavors, and is full-bodied and balanced. Drink now.

Very dry and dramatically tannic now, this is a young Syrah in need of time. It opens with the most classic spray of white pepper and bacon fat, and has impressively deep blackberry, coffee, leather, tar, dark bitter chocolate and spice flavors. Drink 2012–2015.

Dry and tannic, this single-vineyard Syrah has a deep core of blackberry, coffee, tobacco, dark chocolate and spicy flavor. It’s a little acidically sharp on the finish, which limits ageability. Drink now.

Starting to lose fruit at the age of four years, with the cherries and blackberries fading into the background, which lets the alcohol show through. Soft, too. Seems a bit threadbare, and probably was better a year ago.
