Gorgeous aromas of bacon and cherry mix with toast before a palate that’s full of black cherry, plum and vanilla cream. The texture is marvelous, as is its pulse; this is a racy wine filled with rich fruit and firm acids.

Very dense color and aromas of dark fruit and oak. Black currants, roasted fruits and licorice flavors on the slightly tight palate; very dense texture. Closes with full mouth-coating tannins, this is a wine with a very big structure. Built for cellaring, it will reward keeping for 3 or more years.

Winemaker Mike Etzel set out to design a more elegant, feminine companion Pinot to his much-acclaimed Beaux Frères bottling, and this wine really hits the mark. The bright fruit mixes tart raspberry/strawberry flavors that seem to gain weight and complexity in the glass. Over the course of an evening the wine draws you back to it again and again, as the fruit seems to put on flesh and nuances of spice and oak, extending into a deliciously long, sensuous finish.

Though it was the most expensive bottle on the table, it was also one of the lightest. Elegance and restraint are virtues to be sure, and this is a lovely, harmonious wine, lightly dappled with cinnamon and herb. But at this price, from this producer, you want to be dazzled.
