A steely, mineral-like wine that neatly balances firm acidity with fairly rich body. The wine is clean and crisp but also shows off pretty hints of melon, grapefruit and lemon. Long, clean and fresh at the end. A serious effort for this varietal.

This affordable blend of Sangiovese, Zinfandel and Merlot is a serious red wine. Showing layers of blackberries, mocha, herbs, spices and smoke, with a complex acid-tannin structure that will stand up well alongside dry reds costing much more.

A distinguished wine, but a very young one whose tannins dominate. The flavors are myriad and complex, ranging from currants and cherries through anise and plum sauce to the smoky cedar of the oak barrels in which it was aged. Drink now, with decanting, and through 2012. Cabernet, Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah.

The heat of the vintage is vividly displayed in the superripe, almost stewed cherry and blackberry-pie filling flavors and soft mouthfeel of this dry wine. The best thing about it is the tannins, so smooth and finely ground.

This is one of Benessere’s more promising efforts with Sangiovese. It’s a bone-dry, crisply acidic, not too alcoholic wine, with dusty tannins. It rewards with a wealth of refined cherry flavors, and retains the stylish elegance of a fine table wine. Drink now–2008.

Sleek and plush, this elegant blend of black cherry, cola, coffee, tea, plum, spice, cedar, chocolate, blackberry and anise flavors is set in ripe, supple tannins that carry it with muscle and finesse. Silky smooth on the finish, it lingers nicely to the end.

This is a simple, sweet blush wine, with jammy raspberry, vanilla and white sugar flavors. With nice acidity, it will wash down salty, umami-flavored foods, like ham, sausages, roasted nuts, olives.
