Light copper in hue, with earthy aromas that veer toward mushroom. Flavors of peach and pepper are solid, if pedestrian, while the finish is smooth and long. Goes heavy on the Pinot Noir, with lots of dry toastiness to seal the deal.

Starts off toasty and warm, with a scent similar to when a baseboard heater fires up for the first time in the fall. Simple orange and lemon carries the palate toward a fresh, but sweet, crescendo. Finishes candied and heavy, with notes of lime and sugar.

Extra Brut on the label indicates that the Champagne is very dry, and this wine is certainly that. But it also benefits from bottle age to soften the vivid acidity. The flavors are moving into a secondary phase, bringing almonds and yeast to the forefront, keeping creamy apple behind. It is ripe and full, definitely for food.

Soft and creamy, this has freshness, the taste of pear and apricot and a light texture. It’s in the apéritif style, light, delicate and elegant.

Ripe, red fruit-flavored and soft, this is a food-friendly rosé. But with sweetness and caramel, it misses some fresh acidity. It feels heavy, although the balance is fine.

This wine shows much of the richness of 2002, without compromising acidity or crispness. It is very full and rich, but the green fruit character, allied to pink grapefruit and a yeast edge, all come together in an instantly delicious wine.

In style, this latest bottling is a considerable improvement on past years. It has a structure and elegance that lead to pear and white currant flavors, tied to balanced acidity. If the dosage could be dropped a little more, this would be even better.
