Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pretty and richly scented, this wine is stuffed with black cherry fruit, lightly accented with toast and coffee. Still so tightly wound that its richer dimensions remain a bit veiled. Needs more bottle time to really strut its stuff. —P.G.

This is quite distinctive, with spicy highlights that cut through the fruit. There is a scent and sensation of something resinous, mineral; this is clearly structured to age. Good, tart cranberry fruit, highlights of cherry, and light oak.

The three different “Block” reserves may seem significantly distinctive to the winery, but it might serve them just as well to do a reserve and let it go at that. It’s hard to distinguish between them; all show tight, herb and earth-driven flavors. This has a softer, tutti-fruity core that might meld well with the other two.

Nice herbal and leafy accents, rather than big, jammy fruit flavors. The effect is to give the Pinot texture and depth. The oak is not intrusive. Feels just a little thin in the finish.

Full and spicy, this marries ripe, pear and mango-flavored fruit with spicy cinnamon and green tea. It’s got the harmonious integration and lingering fruitiness that makes you want second and third glasses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Organically grown grapes are used here, making a lean, tart, cranberry and pomegranate-flavored Pinot. Right now it is very tight and earthy, so plenty of breathing time will be in order.

Lean cherry aromas. Medium mouthfeel, berry flavors, and moderately astringent. Finishes with somewhat woody, drying tannins.

Two members of our tasting panel detected some iodine and mineral aromas normally associated with chewable vitamins, but the wine also has some nice black cherry aromas. The palate is heavy with plum and dried spices, and a fair dose of buttery oak. Compact and unforgiving, time in the bottle might be the answer.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Straightfoward and tasty, this offers a core of dry cherry fruit swathed in smoke and mild leather accents. The palate has a smooth and silky texture; the finish is even and tea-flavored. For a basic Pinot, this shows hints of style and nuance.

The smoky, bacon-filled nose also offers black cherry, vanilla and a chalky dustiness. The powerful raspberry character in the mouth is driven by healthy acidity. The finish has a lot of charred wood, and black coffee. If there’s a fault, it’s that this wine is hard. Time could be the answer to that.
