This remains one of the stellar white Burgundies in my mind, and has been for several years; the last time that I served it was at the Bacchus New York event and it was great then; opens with a powerful and intense nose that is complex and changing, first with lots of green herbs, then evolving into a more sweet and honeyed set of aromas that take on an almost tropical character; sweet and beautifully focused in the mouth with both power and finesse running side-by-side at the same time; buttered popcorn hints keep creeping into the wine; big acidity at the core as one would expect from this winemaker. Big nose with aggressive aromatics, complex and intense with interwoven aromas of rubber bands, licorice, minerals, hints of honey, smoky, citrus fruits; big flavors in the mouth, powerful and complex, somewhat immature yet but complex and expressive; silky textures; ripe lemon flavors with spicy notes; long sweet finish with balance and poise. Not a particularly complex nose, but with very good aromas of sweet limes, lots of minerals, quite dry; opens with promise, showing good sweet fruit on the uptake, but then seems to fall back, becoming somewhat coarse and angular; dry textures in the mid-mouth are devoid of real fruit; gets harder at the end and finishes on a down note. Ripe and rich nose with strong hints of honey and lime, minerals, spices with a touch of caraway seed and cardamon; smooth and rich in the mouth on the first taste; still pretty closed up showing more lemon and citrus, but with a solid base of fruit and a dense texture that signals more to come in the years ahead; right now the wine finishes a bit austere and citric, but I suspect that this will moderate with a bit more age. Intense and complex nose, layers of aromas that bring forth cookie dough, smoked meat, paraffin, soapstone, green herbs, and sweet ripe fruits; sweet and ripe in the mouth, layers of flavor that bring forth candied lemons, hard candy; smooth and silky; perhaps lacking in acidity overall, but a wonderful wine at this juncture. (17.5/20) Another bottle at the Veritas Group Aix dinner was equal in every way, but my notes reflect this bottle as having more fat in the wine; the rating remains the same.

Very smoky nose, laced with paraffin, ripe fruits, deep and complex aromas; rich and round in the mouth, intensely flavored; sweet citrus fruits, hints of earth, herbs; elegant and succulent with great depth and distant horizons; long powerful finish; quite a statement. (19/20)

Wonderful nose of ripe vanilla bean and lemon peel with powerful mineral notes, rocks and shale, some smoke, elegant and intense; ripe and rich in the mouth with strong mineral notes; hints of honey laced with rocks; slightly bitter with lemon peel flavors; complex, elegant, and layered; not ready yet, but already showing powerful elements of deep and yet hidden components waiting to emerge.
