A nice everyday Chard whose tropical fruit and smoky oak flavors suggest roasted or grilled fish, chicken or pork, topped with with a spicy, fruity salsa.

Here’s a pretty good Zin that will win fans for its fruity, spicy flavors. It’s kind of sweet, but the acidity is crisp and the tannins are rich, which helps to balance the pie-filling raspberries and cherries.

The name is apropos, for this is a big, fleshy wine, almost like one of those Aussie Shirazes in jammy fruit, although it’s Cabernet all the way with blackberries and currants. With fine tannins and a smooth finish, it shows quite a bit of sophistication.

Pretty good price for a Napa Syrah of this quality. It’s a pleasantly fruity sipper, immediately appealing for its ripe, fresh blackberry, cherry and leather flavors. Has a level of dry elegance and tannic complexity that lifts it above the ordinary.

This is a seriously good Zinfandel, both for what it is and what it isn’t. It’s dry, grippy in dusty tannins and complex, with earthy flavors of coffee, cherries, tobacco, blackberries and Asian spices. What it is not is overly alcoholic and sweet, as so many Zins are. The alcohol is a modest 13.9%. The wine has true balance and finesse, and is a great buy in Sonoma Zin.
