There’s curiosity in the concept of a white Merlot, but once you move beyond the appealing citrus nose and into the very sweet flavors of this New Mexico offering, there’s question as to whether this actually works. Sweetness overpowers the fruit, and the wine wants balance.

This New Mexico Cab offers exotic spice and tobacco on the nose and cigarbox, smoked meat and red berry on the palate. Robust and masculine, it will pair well with grilled steaks, barbecue chicken and spicy cuisine.

Clove and cherry lead the wine but on the palate, there's too much of a tart, fruit juice blast. There's some spice and heft in the finish but overall, the flavors are one-dimensional.

Honey, pineapple and pear on the nose are continued on the palate. The flavors are quite pretty but the overall structure of the wine tends toward watery; could use more acid and strength. Still, enjoy it chilled on a patio or in a hammock and you’ll find it an enjoyable, affordable warm-weather choice.
