This 70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha Vieja is a dark, straightforward quaffer with an earth and black fruit core. Brewed, malty notes on the nose and finish, however, make more sense in beer than wine. —D.M.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Tempranillo-Garnacha blend is full in the mouth, with a palate brimming with juicy black plums and oak. With this kind of extraction (and the caramelly, creamy oak that goes along with it), you might mistake it for a Cabernet. Finishes medium-long, though a little dry, with oak and nut flavors. —D.M.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine from the La Cerca winery hails from near Toledo. It’s dark and ripe, with plum, currant and oak on the nose. Syrupy cassis notes carry the palate toward and extracted, tannic finish. Quite deep and rich, but arguably a touch grapy. Worth a look.
