Woodsy and dark fruit. espresso. soft spice. Smooth and lush dark berry, vanilla, and ripe plum skin, with a pleasing current of minerality throughout. i like it a lot! the mineral undertone adds a twist to it. Very typical of the rioja alavesa region. I can taste the red clay and limestone, which I enjoy. $20 at Cork'd. DC. January 2010Rioja Alavesa is the smallest of three sub-regions of Rioja region. Its higher altitude and cooler temperature allows the grapes to achieve moderate acidity, and the soils of the vineyards are rich in clay and limestone, contributing to the mineral tones present in many of the wines from here.
