Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Needs ample air to shake its early stewy, earthy character, and even then it recedes into a place best described as traditional. That means the nose is rustic, leathery and oaky, and the fruit is reserved, teetering toward drying and fading. A throwback with merits and demerits.

Citrus peel and dried tree fruits define the nose. Raspberry and strawberry flavors are light-framed, while the palate feel is coarse due to hard tannins. Decent on a good day, with some grittiness to the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts with lightly roasted aromas of herbal fruit and pepper, while the palate is deeper and more pure, with raspberry, cherry and cranberry flavors. Finishes medium in terms of power and length, but short on complexity. Good in a basic sense, with proper balance.

A wine that very much fits the bill. The aromas are rubbery and smoky, with plenty of dark, ripe fruit filling in the voids. In the mouth, cherry and plum runneth over, while the finish is potent. Fruit is front and center, all supported by spicy oak. Very good in a mainstream, approachable way.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and dusty on the bouquet, with a lot of berry fruit. The middle is medium weight, shows good balance and sports tasty cherry, plum and cassis. Not too hard on the finish, and fruit-forward all the way. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Begins with muddled, murky, syrupy aromas of caramel and berries. The palate is more high-toned, with lemony accents to tomato, baked fruit and savory flavors. Finishes solid albeit lightly damp and bitter. Comes around with time but always seems a bit murky.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The nose of red fruits comes with oak, mocha and toast, while the palate is crisp and tight, with juicy, dry red berry flavors and backgroud notes of chocolate and spice. Seems like an Old World throwback due to its leaner body and an emphasis on dry spice and acid-driven red fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Maybe a little fat and wayward upon first look, but give it time and it rolls into form. Raspberry and black cherry aromas lead to bigger, similar flavors. The feel is good, with a little burn of red-pepper flake on the semisoft finish. Drink now.

Easy and fruity, with light cherry aromas. Juicy on the palate, with raspberry, apple skin and plum flavors. Zesty as they go, with good natural acidity and ample freshness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Toasty, earthy, chocolaty and meaty, but not overly fruity or sweet. The palate features solid structure and body, with rooty raspberry, plum, nutmeg and other spice-based flavors. A little rough and short on the finish, with firm tannins. Gets better the longer it sits, so decant or let breathe before pouring.
