Nominated for most interesting Best Buy in a long time, this oddball blend of Chardonnay and Viognier is from little-known San Juan Province in Argentina. Blended by the Australian Peter Bright, it’s a full-bodied, barrel-aged wine that’s seemingly oxidized but isn’t. Yellow in color, with roundness, depth and waxy honey, apricot, pineapple and apple flavors. Not a perfect specimen, and definitely not for everyone. But we’d drink it again, and we’d expect to be challenged.

Starts out with ripe dark-druit aromas, while pepper and charred beef come later. The palate is best up front, where black cherry and dark berry flavors attack well but lose steam fairly quickly. And the finish holds onto some buttery oak that one might rather not taste. But overall this is an easy 50-50 Argentine red blend.
