The inviting nose of this mature red blends berry, vanillin oak, sweet cream, wood and tobacco. But the wine never fully delivers on the front-end promise, as oak sits heavily on the berry-plum fruit, giving it a smooth but rather leaden feel. More woody tannins show on the modest finish. Probably would have shown more positively three years ago. —M.M.

Here’s a fruity wine that wants to jump out of the glass at you. It’s loaded with sweet, candied aromas that are typical of young Garnacha, and the palate is chewy, creamy and bullish with the red-berry flavors. It shows bubble-gum sweetness on the finish, but it’s exactly what you’d expect as a whole.

A simple, crisp and slightly stripped-back wine. The nose has red fruit, leather and light wood, while the palate races with cranberry and red cherry flavors. Overall it is fairly sheer and drying, but it will accent food without much effort.

Nice violet and minerally aromas mix with sweet berry scents, and right then you know you have a competent, correct Garnacha on your hands. It’s a bit acidic and bouncy, but the flavors of berry and plum are firm, tasty and fade well on the finish. A fresh and zesty wine for near-term drinking.
