Light and modest in aromas, although scents of citrus blossom and nectarine manage to work their way to the top of the bouquet. The palate is smooth and creamy, with flavors of red plum, melon and chocolate. A good wine that won’t make you go crazy looking for complexities and depth.

Apple and peach define the bouquet, but where’s the pop? This cava seems a touch quiet and reticent. It’s drying, with flavors of apple, white corn and soda cracker. But the bead is weak and the overall personality is shy. Has 15% Chardonnay in addition to the traditional cava three-pack of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarello.

The sweet, smooth nose is very basic—some might say nondescript. Some lemony flavors are touched up by ample spice, while the finish is dry and the mouthfeel, like the Brut Nature, is flat as a Midwestern highway. Decent flavors but nothing much beyond that. —M.S.

The soda-like nose is simpler than it is captivating. The palate provides some citrus and tropical fruit, but it’s borderline tart, too. The finish is dry and crisp, but the mouthfeel seems flatter than it should be. —M.S.

This stylistic wine shows red cabbage and borscht, plus a slight dill character, on the nose. The palate follows suit, with Bing cherries and cedar that integrate with the full, nonassertive tannins. Best Buy. —C.S.

The apple, hay and earth aromas and flavors of this Chardonnay from northeastern Spain are in the right range, but lack the liveliness and definition I sought. Medium-weight, it finishes a bit short, a bit dull and uninspired. —M.M.
