Soft and easy with sweet flavors of peach and melon, Bolla delivers an internationally recognized definition of Soave. The wine would wash down nicely with fried calamari or Indian samosa.

Tufaie gets its name from the chalky tufa stone deposits that characterize its vineyard soils. That quality adds a pristine, dry quality to the wine that works very nicely with its sweet melon, sage and stone fruit aromas.

Some almondy sweet scents are followed by leather and dry fruit. The feel across the palate is a bit sharp because of strong acidity, but some leathery, raisiny flavors provide balance. Then a bit of burnt sugar and chocolate add sweetness to the tannic finish. A good Amarone, but not seemingly for long-term keeping.

Raisins, bacon and pickle brine comprise the nose, which comes before a palate full of leathery dried cherry, anise and tannins. This wine is thinner than many, with a fairly sharp and angular mouthfeel.

More substantive than Bolla’s standard Merlot, this wine starts off with meaty, soy aromas as well as notes of wood and milk chocolate. The palate is round, bordering on heavy. In terms of taste, coffee and chocolate surround and overwhelm what nondescript fruit there is.

Light and vague aromas of leather, cherry and wet rubber give way to flavors of sour cherries, plums and bitter chocolate. The finish is like a confection; at one point it’s tangy and tart, and then it veers toward the overly sweet. Fairly tart and hollow as a whole.

The overall profile here is heavy, probably too heavy given the pedigree of fruit. The nose is a potent mix of herbal-influenced black fruit and leather, while the palate is equally overblown, offering only some nondescript bulky fruit. Modest tannins on the finish make it feel soft.

Fairly toasty, with charcoal, coconut, tobacco and other firm, wood-driven aromas. Racy and tight on the palate, with cedar, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Lean and clean would be the best way to describe it, and it seems as though it would go well with food, even now.
