Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From Spago’s former sommelier and new winery owner, Michael Bonaccorsi, a big, rich, gutsy Syrah with plenty of ripe fruit and gritty tannins. There are some nice flavors of blackberries and cassis.

Tastes fresh and jammy, like it’s right out of the fermenting tank. The black cherries have an herbal edge of thyme, with oak-inspired sandalwood. A bit too young and angular, but should calm down by mid-2010.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very rich and thick, with extracted, pastry-filling flavors of blackberries, currants, cedar and pepper. Will have its fans, but lacks a good structure, and the alcohol level, 15.9%, is way too high for balance.

Shows the pedigree of this top vineyard in the well-ripened fruit and impeccable balance. The flavors of red and black cherries, pomegranates, root beer, crème caramel and clove spice are as intricate as a tapestry. Very high quality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Awesome wine, big, brooding and tannic, yet amazingly rich in fruit, this is one for the cellar. Massive blackberry, coffee and chocolate fruit flavors are well-integrated with smoky oak, and the finish is huge, long and fruity-spicy. A real beauty now, but so immature, it would be a shame not to give it four or five more years to develop additional bottle complexities.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A nice, full-bodied wine that offers plenty of Pinot Noir character. Ripe and rich in red and black fruit and dusty spice flavors, it has a dry, tannic finish. Give it some brief decanting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a full-bodied, deeply-flavored young Pinot that combines flamboyance with elegance, a very difficult feat for any wine. There’s an exoticness to the fruits, spices and smoky, sweet oak. They all meld together into some impossibly decadent pastry, and yet the finish is firm and dry. Should evolve through 2012, at least.

Delicate power—any oxymoron—would be a fitting way to describe this single-vineyard beauty, grown in the northern part of the appellation. There’s a lightness to the mouthfeel, like cotton candy, but then the power kicks in, reminiscent of cherry reduction, anise, orange zest, herb tea, black pepper and clove-dominated Asian spices. There’s even a hint of smoky chocolate. Best now through 2012.

Jammy and fat. All primary fruit (cherries) and loads of toast. Its rich and ripe, with loads of cherry fruit flavor, scads of sweet oak. Juicy acidity. Best 20062012.
