Amply displays how well Viognier takes to dessert-wine status. This frankly sweet wine has delicious flavors of apricot nectar drizzled with vanilla and white chocolate powder, with enough acidity for balance.

Nice and easy marks this dry wine. It’s modest but honest, with earth, herb and coffee-cherry flavors. Fairly stiff in tannins, but won’t compete with rich fare.

Randall Grahm is at the top of his game, producing Rhône wines that are inexpensive, yet incredibly complex and rewarding. This year’s Cigare is bone dry, and the richest yet. With its zesty burst of acidity, the subtle flavors are of cherries, raspberries, rose petals, dried Provençal herbs and pepper. This complex wine is a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Cinsault, Syrah and Marsanne.

From warm Contra Costa County, this old vine Zin is eccentric and individualistic. It's wild, opening with a savage burst of briary fruit. The ripe fruity flavors persist in the mouth, where it's dry, kind of soft, and seems more alcoholic than the official reading of 13.5%. Finishes on a dry, bitter note.

A blend of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne mostly sourced from the Arroyo Grande appellation, this is a delightful wine, just a pleasure to drink. Crisp and clean in Monterey acidity, it shows a mineral undergirding to the tropical fruit, green apple, honeysuckle and spice flavors.

This is made from Roussanne grown in a single vineyard. It’s quite sweet in apricot honey flavor, thanks to botrytis, but doesn’t bowl you over with intensity. Call it an easy dessert sipper that’s ready now.

Here’s a good chance to discover the joys of Riesling. Winemaker Randall Grahm has crafted an appley, citrusy wine of great flair, just this side of dry, with refreshing acidity. Picks up some almond-skin bitterness in the finish.

Mostly from Contra Costa grapes, a plummy wine with those raisiny notes Zin can get from hot areas. Yet the alcohol is moderate, the body smooth, and the wine is fully dry. It will appeal to fans of this style.

Zippy, zingy, zesty sipping with this delightfully crisp, slightly sweet white wine. It has pretty flavors of apples, peaches and honeysuckle, with a minerally tang.

This bottling, which is Randall Grahm’s hommage to the Northern Rhône, has varied over the vintages, but with this 2006, hits the mark as never before. Made with a splash of Grenache, it’s full-bodied, bone dry and compelling in the intricacy of flavors. The blackberries, black cherries, licorice, and raspberries have elements of roasted meats and wild mushrooms sautéed in butter, tamari and a few drops of balsamic, liberally dusted with black pepper. Unique and compelling, and should develop over the next six years.
