Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mainly Petite Sirah, this wine has a hot, baked taste, like cherry pie filling that burbled out of the crust and got burnt and caramelized in the oven. Drink now.

Jammy and yet still savory, a fairly straightforward Syrah from the Clements Hills area of Lodi, small production (240 cases), 100% varietal and made using native fermentation, the wine has solid tannin structure and a heady texture, but could use more oomph on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Borra’s Fusion is a bottle full of Lodi’s traditional varietals. It’s got plenty of Petite Sirah’s dustiness with the earthiness of the other varieties fighting through, but the fruit feels a bit overtaken by the 14.9% alcohol.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This blend of 80% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre out of Lodi’s Clements Hills is big all-around: big fruit, big oak (50% new French) and big, dusty tannins. But it has a nice follow-through and finish, a glassful of blackberries for the Petite Sirah lovers in your life.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of lush blackberry, chocolate and anise flavors in this softly textured blend of Syrah and several other varieties. You’ll find some compromising notes of green mint and pepper that accentuate the tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dry and tannic in youth, with a jammy, somewhat heavy mouthfeel, this wine, from a sub-appellation in Lodi, might benefit from a year or two in the bottle. It has ripe, forward flavors of black currants, cassis, cherries, chocolate and black pepper.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a lusty, lip-smacking wine. It’s exuberant in blackberry and cherry pie-filling flavors complexed with cola, mocha and anise, with a rich oaky finish of smoke. The tannins are sturdy and refined, and suggest pairing this polished wine with grilled beef and hard cheeses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft, ripe and high-alcohol hot, this Syrah, Petite Sirah, Alicante and Mourvèdre blend has sweet flavors of cherry, raspberry and blackberry pie filling, M&M candy and smoky vanilla. As sweet and direct as it is, it possesses a deliciousness that makes it easy to like.
