An attractive, fresh wine, with apple flavors, balancing acidity and a touch of softness to finish. This is just the thing for the summer.

Salmon-colored, with nice scents of strawberry and leafy red berry, this sparkler has big, zesty bubbles and flavors of lime and citrus touched with red berry. Crisp on the finish, with citrusy-apple flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the standard bearer of one of the top Saumur producers. It is pleasantly fresh and crisp, the white fruits showing well over the ripe, creamy texture. With its fine acidity, it leaves a crisp, mineral aftertaste.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With its rich fruit, this is an immediately attractive wine. It shows the ripeness of the year in Saumur, bringing together apricot and cantaloupe melon flavors, the acidity a necessary and balancing adjunct to the full-bodied texture. Drink now, or age for 2–3 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Right off the bat you’ll detect that this Loire Valley sparkler is not Chardonnay; it’s Chenin Blanc—you can tell from the yellow color and the unusual nose that’s both meaty and toasty. Interesting across the palate, with notes of papaya, pear and green herbs. Hefty and smoky at the end, with a fat mouthfeel.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pulls out all the stops to create a big, massively complex wine. Despite the flamboyant tropical fruit flavors and rich spiciness supplied by oak, the wine never loses control of itself. It’s a tame lion. Fills the mouth with creamy flavors and sensations that roll on and on. The finish returns to the spicy-fruity theme with a hint of smoky honey. —S.H.

Starts off a little stinky, with burnt-matchstick aromas partially obscuring hints of toast and citrus. Delivers plump, low-acid, ripe apple flavors on the palate, ending on the soft side.

A 100% Chardonnay that is rich, with a creamy feel and flavors of tropical fruits. It is full and food-friendly with a dry aftertaste, and a touch of almonds. Imported by Kobrand.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Chenin Blanc, which comprises 85% of the blend, delivers lovely hay, grass and clover notes reminiscent of a still wine. But there are plenty of bubbles, and the complex palate orchestrates a delightful mix of fruits and spices with a finishing whisper of honey.

Mostly Chenin, with 10% Chardonnay, this delicious bubbly mixes spicy yeast with clove and herb scents, inviting repeated sips. Full-bodied fruit flavors follow, with a slightly candied appeal, and the finish wraps you in hints of vanilla and light toast.
