Brander’s basic Syrah is a good, dry wine, and while it’s a little on the light side, it has pretty flavors of blackberries, black pepper, cola and black currants. The alcohol is nice and low, under 14%.

Heavy and dense in the mouth, with rich flavors of grilled blackberries, pepper and a lovely addition of toasted oak. Nice and dry, but a bit too soft, and would benefit from greater structure.

A nice, flavorful and dry Syrah for drinking now with barbecue or a rich lamb or beef stew. Soft and gentle, it’s rich in blackberries, cherries, currants, beef jerky, pepper and smoky oak.

This is a very dry, tannic wine, with a simple structure. But it has well-developed black cherry and mocha flavors, and is soft in acids, making it pleasant now with something rich, like short ribs of beef.

From one of California’s greatest Sauvignon Blanc producers comes this very interesting wine from a well-regarded part of the appellation. It’s a big wine, packed with concentrated citrus, fig, melon and peppery spice flavors. With fresh acidity, it’s right up there with the best.

A little on the sweet side, with lemonade and pineapple juice flavors that are sugared. Crisp acidity fortunately provides a clean finish to this slightly oaked Sauvignon Blanc.

This single-vineyard bottling is riper and more intense than Brander’s regular ’04 Cab, but it’s not necessarily a better wine. The angular tannins are more pronounced, giving it a jagged, sharp mouthfeel that will not age away.

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. It’s crisp and clean in acidity, with zesty flavors of pineapples, oranges, mangoes and vanilla. If only it were drier, the score would be much higher.
