Here is a wine from a county almost unknown for Pinot Noir. It expresses some varietal character in the raspberry and cherry flavors, and its dry, silky tannins. There are also less-ripe tomato and beet notes. The next step is to develop finesse. —S.H.

Good color, with earthy, black cherry and tobacco aromas. Drinks earthy, with cherry and sage flavors. The tannins are silky but the wine needs more delicacy and elegance if it wants to compete with coastal Pinots. —S.H.
