Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Some barrel fermentation (30%) has added a lightly toasty element to this bone dry wine. It shows simple flavors of melon and citrus, along with residual yeastiness.

Its complex nose—inviting, with leather green tobacco and forest floor shadings on the dark berry fruit—is followed by a narrower, greener palate. There’s good texture, with creamy oak and lemony note on the palate, which give way to a taut finish with tobacco and licorice shadings.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pickle-barrel aromas dominate the nose, which downshifts into pure charred oak after a while. Big, chunky flavors yield too little Syrah fruit and too much other stuff. This one lays low in the glass and just never steps into line.

Soundly made, straightforward Washington Chardonnay, with chunky, forward, green-apple fruit married to some butterscotchy oak. Full malolactic fermentation brings the fruit forward and keeps the acids low.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, aggressively oaky aroma, smelling like a stroll through a sawmill, leads into a wine whose simple fruit is simply overmatched by the wood. Tough, dry and tannic through the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There is some nice black fruit forward in the palate, and a bit of toasty tannin in the back, but where’s the middle? There’s a big hole where the heart of this wine should reside, and it makes the rest seem lean and unyielding. —P.G.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soapy, lemony and spicy; this is a pleasant drinking white wine, but shows no clear varietal character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Front-loaded flavors show clean berry fruit, but the wine stops short in the middle and quickly cuts off, finishing with somewhat green, herbal tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here there is plenty of oak, laid on a bit thick, and a hot, tannic and buttery finish.
