Panel members had differing opinions about this wine. While one taster found it too woody and wrought with caramel and toasted marshmallow flavors, another found it quite elegant, with fresh herb and understated stone fruit flavors. Round in the mouth; try it and break our deadlock.

A welcome addition to any raw bar, this lean, crisp wine might just be too crisp to drink on its own. It tastes and smells like fresh lemon pith; finishes with nice citrus-slate flavors.

Hugely concentrated and purple in color, with tight, deep aromas of black plum and match stick. Powerful, with cassis and cherry fruit, while the finish is oaky, delivering vanilla and coffee. The wine’s heavy weight and sharp acidity don’t exactly match, but the overall impression is still positive. —M.S.

There is a slight vegetal note, but there’s enough pretty red plum fruit and smoky oak to distract you. Leaf, beef, putty and eucalyptus waft from the nose.

Has earthy, brambly aromas, which follow through to give purple and red berries some luster. Has woody tannins, but also a narrow, hollow feel on the palate. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

This is a lively Sem-Sauv in which the Sauvignon seems to steal the show. Semillon lends a hay-like aroma, but apart from that, zesty lime and grass flavors dominate. Tastes just as it smells, with a dry feel. Very nice. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.
