Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Disgorged in May 2005, this is still not quite knit together, but the components are flavorful and appealing. There is plenty of ripe fruit hovering between citrus and tropical. And there is toast and perhaps a hint of butter, which softens the back end and lengthens the finish. But it doesn’t completely hang together; it lurches a bit, like a car needing transmission work.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Since he created his company in 1981, Bruno Paillard has become an important force in Champagne, owning a number of other brands. But his top wines are made under his own name; they go for finesse and elegance. This bottling also has a touch of mature, toasty acid flavors. The bottles carry the year of disgorgement—an excellent idea. Imported by Vintus LLC.

This handsome rosé opens with full strawberry, floral and hay aromas, and even a decidedly Pinot gamy hint. The palate shows very good depth of tart cherry and baked-goods flavors and a fine mousse-soft, rich and creamy texture. Closes with more berry fruit, a cinnamon note and light tannins.

A crisp, dry wine, very fresh, dominated by grapefruit and lemon flavors, with a light texture of green fruit skins. This is as fresh as can be, but it has a good density of flavor to balance.

There’s plenty of Pinot in this blend and darker berry flavors show on the nose. Tart-sweet fruit and a texture at once round and tangy mark the palate. The pretty finish is moderately full, with a crisp zing.

Opens with a stunning layered, bouquet of dried fruits, sandalwood, flowers, smoke and ginger. It’s full on the tongue, with rich pear and apple flavors, toast and yeast accents. Citrus and mineral notes persist on the lengthy finish of this impressively complex bottling. Sourced from seven grand cru villages, this is superb now and will last a very long time.

This wine’s wonderful nose of apple, sourdough, caramel and ginger aromas gives way to a light, dry palate. The spice, pear and lemon flavors are subtle and seductive, the mouthfeel soft and fairly full. Finishes long and refined, with citrus and green apple notes.

This bottle was disgorged in July 1995, allowing nine years of aging. It is a very ripe, soft wine, delicate but still underlain with some of the steely, mineral character of the 1996 vintage. Delicious now, but it will certainly age over the next five years.

A densely aromatic nose offers caramel, floral, coconut and lime scents. Soft and even in the mouth, the wine’s yeasty-toasty flavors are offset by bright citrus accents that come forward on the long finish. Delicious now, this youthful wine should develop further over the next few years.

Fresh bakery, coconut and caramel aromas open to a round, sensuous palate in this mature bottling. Relatively low-acid, crisp green apple and stone fruit flavors and tart citrus accents keep the palate bright. It’s ready to drink, finishing long and taut, with persistent lemon-lime notes.
