Deep, pungent aromas of sweet fruit and bramble mark the nose of this solid, full-scale wine. Full-throttle cherry flavors, with licorice, tobacco and dark-chocolate accents reign on the palate. The silky, elegant texture makes it almost too easy to like. Ends long, with even tannins, and tobacco and cocoa notes. Refined and balanced, yet almost austere now; best to cellar for four to seven years.

Deeply colored in a black and purple hue, the wine smells young, with oak and grape aromas dominating. It’s obviously in need of age. The flavors are New World ripe, suggesting plums and blackberries, and the tannins are rich enough for cellaring. A more troubling note is the excessively soft mouthfeel. It lacks life and vibrancy and feels flat and syrupy on the tongue.

sour - needed to let it sit before the tannins became soothed; fruity, not very complex or appealing in my opinion
