* Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
I approached this wine with trepidation as it is from my least favorite Burgundy vintage; first nose threatened to fulfill my fears as it was sour and slightly musty, with a sour mash character, woody with black and red spices, and the usual absence of fruit with a touch of pine tar on the nose that often signals problems for this vintage; surprisingly soft and sweet in the mouth with pleasant black cherry flavors in the body of the wine; but the wine could not sustain the early promise, and as with most from this vintage, collapsed into a dry tannic, slightly dilute and acidic wine that gave up its character in the early part of the pour.
