Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Just swamped by oak, the slight fruit here is a platform for the wood, yielding heavy cedar and prune flavors. It looks a bit old—odd at this age—and although even on the palate, it doesn’t offer much in the way of mouthfeel or finish. Perhaps in the barrel too long, this wine is gone before its time.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A good deal for a 100% Sangiovese estate-bottled wine. The bouquet has nice baking-spice aromas, primarily cinnamon and nutmeg, while the flavor profile stocks foresty cherry-berry fruit. Smooth enough late, with vanilla and dried spices. High acidity prevailing in the center is the only fault .

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mildly minty and raisiny on the nose, with a jammy, heavy personality. Which makes it surprising that it’s so tart and cherry-driven in the mouth. Yet on the finish milk chocolate and coffee come into play. Too scattered and all over the map. Doesn’t have a defined personality.

Ripe and fruity, with earth, leather and plum aromas. The flavors drive toward strawberry and raspberry, while the finish is round and pleasant. Good quality; easy to drink.

Aromas of deep cherry, oak, olives, roast (not brewed) coffee and anise open this solid offering. Flavors of apple, leather and spice follow, with a nice medium-weight mouthfeel. It closes with a finish of moderate length, showing tart fruit flavors and a hint of olives.

Here’s a traditional Chianti Classico with pretty aromas of cherry cola, mesquite, almonds and violets. The wine is compact and elegant in the mouth and offers crisp berry flavors on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Cigar box and sweet fruit aromas are encouraging, but the follow up is not there. There’s only tart red fruit and vanilla aromas, and after that a whole lot of acid and oak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An estate Sangiovese-based blend with leather, dried fruit and cedar aromas. Flavors of tight red fruit hit forcefully, propelled by zesty acidity. Definitely tangy and racy on the finish, but the strawberry and raspberry flavors are solid enough. With food it will do just fine.

Mineral tones, vibrant fruit, root beer and oak shadings are principal components of the wine’s well-balanced nose. The mouthfeel is lean with medium intensity and bright fruit flavors on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here is a sweetly perfumed wine with tones of Christmas spice and church incense backed by old leather and pipe tobacco. There’s a soapy, lavender like note that is cloying at first but that diminishes with time. In the mouth, the wine is linear and full of ripe berry flavors.
