Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a saturated, almost amber-like tinge to this oak-driven Sardinia Vermentino and Chardonnay blend. It boasts good structure and lovely notes of vanilla, butter, butterscotch, banana and pineapple (wood-fermented and aged). Creamy in the mouth with nutty-apple flavors folded within.

This rose-colored Sardinian wine has very good depth and complexity and appears luminous in the glass thanks to gorgeous pink highlights. The nose offers small berries, crushed pomegranate, ripe fruit and a dash of medicinal herbs: From the island’s Carignano grape variety.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One year of oak has helped to shape this bright Carignano with evolved aromas of mature fruit and spice. The tannins are soft and round and the wine has balanced acidity that makes this Sardinian wine especially food-friendly.

Shardana is a joint venture between Sardinia’s Cantina Santadi and importers Neil and Maria Empson. The opulent wine consists of Carignano with a small percentage of Syrah and the result is a rich and deeply penetrating wine with aromas of black cherry and mature fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rugged and aggressive, but that’s just fine considering how big, broad and tannic this Carignan is. Look for fiery licorice aromas with notes of citrus peel and black cherry. The palate offers tons of weight, richness and spice.

Terre Brune is a benchmark wine for the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. It is made with Carignano (with 5% Bovaleddu, a native grape) and shows superior concentration and richness thanks to extremely low yields in the vineyard. The wine is elegant and shows extraordinary harmony of fruit, spice, softness and structure.

Crisp, fruity and full of mineral nuances, this faithfully represents Sardinia’s winemaking potential, especially when it comes to easy-drinking white wines. Vanilla, stone fruit, apple-nut, citrus peel and honey flavors boost a creamy, almost viscous consistency.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is not a very intense wine and initial sulfuric notes (that eventually blow) are distracting. The 85-15 Monica and Carignano blend does however gain clarity and purity with a few swirls of the glass to reveal pomegranate, earth and exotic spice. No wood is used.

This rosé has a nice way about it thanks to small berry fruit flavors and rich almond aromas. It’s compact but with enough structure to make it an interesting companion to pork, white meat or shellfish.

Made with Carignano grapes, Grotta Rossa is a simple, fruity red wine with jammy notes of strawberry, prune and plum. Natural spice tones are woven within (although this wine sees no oak) for an easy and fresh-tasting ensemble.
