This rather famous wine was very good, but did not place among the very top wines, perhaps due to the vintage. It has pretty flavors of black raspberries and cherries, and was framed in well-toasted, high-end oak. Some tasters found its jammy extraction overdone. But overall, quite pleasant drinking.

Tastes heavy and tannic now, but there’s a big core of blackberries, currants, grilled meat and peppery spices, and it’s totally dry. Already throwing sediment, it could age in interesting ways over the next 6–8 years.

Not nearly as good as the 2000, this wine has bizarre aromas and flavors of dill pickles, lead pencils, syrupy cola, and sulfur. It's also so oaky, it hurts the palate. Finishes hot and rough.
