Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A touch basic but also rock solid for $10. Apricot and other proper white fruit aromas get it going, and then come apple and apricot flavors. There’s a slight cidery element to it, and the acid has a sheering quality, but as a whole it’s nice Viognier for the price.

The brownish-gold color indicates that it’s aging fast, and if you need more confirmation that comes via the waxy, flat nose. The palate is fleshy and soft, while the flavors of peach and apricot are turning heavy and a little bitter. A wine that’s past its prime by a year or two.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ripe and rubbery on the nose, with dark plum and berry aromas. Overall this is a good wine for San Juan, with blackberry, cassis, rubber and other weighty flavors. Generous and stacked on the finish, but a little bitter and herbal at the end.

Regular but inviting, with good berry aromas and only a modicum of baked-fruit grit to the nose. The palate is solid and fruity, with lively, grapey berry and black-cherry flavors. Finishes smooth, with chocolate notes. Easygoing, simple Malbec from San Juan province.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heady berry aromas are green and grassy. The mouth is acidic and sheering, with black fruit flavors made sharp by excess acidity. Flavorful but a rough, screechy ride.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts out strong with lemon, apple and other fresh-fruit aromas. The flavors are more mealy and warm, and the palate feel is oily. Citrus, apple, lemon and tropical fruit all make appearances, but overall the wine fades into mediocrity and pithy bitterness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A spicy sort of red, with earth, leather and forest aromas. Cassis, cherry and chocolate make for a tasty palate, although there’s a bit of outsized tannin, oak and heat. Sturdy, medium in terms of lushness, and broad.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Leafy red fruit, candied licorice and a touch of toast add up to the bare basics on the nose. Tangy and short in the mouth, with a bit too much acidity resulting in a scratchy mouthfeel. Cherry and red raspberry are the dominant flavors. Imported by 31 Degrees South Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark berry and meaty fruit on the nose, with plum and blackberry aromas. The palate is zestier, with bright acidity tempering any weight. The finish is solid, with nothing off or outlandish to consider. A good, solid, concentrated Syrah without a whole lot of varietal character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A hot and fiery wine from San Juan province that mixes stewy barnyard aromas with black cherry. The palate has a syrupy, sugary feel and medicinal, creamy, baked berry flavors. Peppery on the finish, but with a medicinal aftertaste.
