Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Crusty but also perfumed on the bouquet, and then quite snappy and a little edgy in the mouth. Red fruit is the dominant flavor component, and there are accents of coconut, olive and toast. It’s pretty straightforward as Chilean Cab goes, but it’s composed and flavorful. In a nutshell, wines like this are what people expect from the Maipo.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tight and oaky in the nose, with some funky green notes. The palate is a bit herbal and mildly vegetal, but there’s also some cherry fruit and spice. The texture on the finish is the high point, but the vegetal flavor at the wine’s core is a sore point.

Arugula, dark chocolate and faint cherry-vanilla aromas meld well with flavors of apple peel and a hint of white pepper. Red plum and dark chocolate repeat throughout. Light-bodied and fruity, with just enough acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and grapey, with some strange candied aromas akin to bubble gum. Given time to air, it comes around to offer black plum flavors, but also a hint of green bean. The finish has a nice feel to it and some coffee-like flavor. Ample tannins leave a lasting impression.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The nose is oaky and grainy as it offers aromas of corn and wheat as well as some pear fruit. The apple, honeydew and oak flavors make for a robust palate, but one with a sweet, mildly artificial-tasting core. The finish is oaky and resiny, although there’s some necessary balancing acidity and citrus flavors to keep it steady.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
At first, the bouquet seems dense and tinged with a mild lactic note, but that moves on rather quickly. The flavor profile of banana, pear and apple is perfectly fine, while the finish is a bit lean.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite herbal on the nose, with aromas of tomato and green peppers. In a word, it’s basic Carmenère, with a fair amount of vegetal character. Under that, however, are pie cherry and raspberry flavors as well as piercing, razor-like acids. As a result, it’s tangy and sharp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Spicy and meaty, with olive and leather aromas. While somewhat herbal, there are ample plum, blackberry and sugar-beet flavors. Definitely not your standard Merlot; this is a different breed, one that’s generally good but strays off course.

The scents of fireplace and matchstick hit you right away, while the flavor profile is made up of lemon, tangerine and infused oak. Overall, it runs sharp and forceful, with intense citric notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Herbal and cool on the bouquet, with a dark, masculine color. The palate is sweet and plummy, with berry nuances. Tannins come up on the finish, which is ripe and pulsing. Overall, it’s integrated and original, a decent bet within the Carmenère category.
