Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Alert and rosy, with touches of red berry snazzing up the bouquet. For $5 this is as much as one could reasonably expect out of a rosado from the high plains of Spain. And with modest melon and peach notes on the finish it concludes with a hint of style.

Lean and peppery, with more citrus than berry on the nose. The mouth is a bit grabby, with a starchy feel and far-reaching tannins. Clearly not a great wine but it holds itself together.

Light stone-fruit and vanilla aromas lead to a fresh, somewhat dilute palate that offers apple and peach flavors. Wet and juicy, with clean, medium-force acids. Easy to quaff. Imported by CIV/USA.

Deep aromas for a light wine. Carbonic maceration used here (as in Beaujolais). Ajuciy and bright, but not wimpy or vacuos wine. Lively an dfresh, but with a smoky, dark note what that adds interest. Rounds an impressive trio in aprice where little of merit is expected.

Not quite as complex as the Oro, but also very well done. Both wines are 85% Tempranillo and 15% Garnacha. Shows a nice density on the nose an din the mouth, with earth and spice-tinged cherry aromas and flavors. Finishes clean. Less earty than the above;some may find it more appealing.

From this recently granted (1996) DOC region comes this very commendable and inexpensive red. The nose is rich, with vanilla-tinged berry aromas and a brambly, earthy complexity not often seen in this price range. The mouthfeel is full; there is structure and a long, dry finish with even tannins. Would work with many food pairings.

Some dried fruits accent what is otherwise a dull nose. Flavors of raspberry and rhubarb are lean and tangy, while the finish is rather tight and tannic for such a basic wine. Overall, it’s not sour. But to call it rich, satisfying and sweet would be out of the question. Made by the Martinez-Bujanda group.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The yellowish color is an indicator that it may be over the top, and it is. Honey and mealy apple aromas and flavors are out of whack with what Viura/Macabeo should be. Enough said.

A little jammy up front, but mostly this is dull and bland, with generic citrus-inspired flavors and some bitterness late. Can’t see this really helping out food or standing alone as an apéritif.

Mildly raw and reduced, but at $6 expectations shouldn’t be too high. In the mouth, it’s tangy and light, with zingy strawberry/raspberry flavors that have some scour. Bland but lively.
